MALAR AUGMENTATION (CHEEKS ENHANCEMENT)

AUGMENTATION

The operation to increase the malar volume has as objective to enhance the oval shape of the face. This operation is specially indicated in people whom they have flat or undeveloped malar bones. The operation sometimes is done in conjunction with rhinoplasty and/or face lift.

The usual operation consists of placing synthetic implants (silicone, Goretex) on the bone, to increase its projection.

The operation it is carried out through an incision within the mouth, between the superior lip and the gingiva. A pocket on the bone is performed and the implant is placed. After the operation it is necessary to be on soft diet during one week and it is normal to have facial inflammation during a 2-4 weeks. Also the zone of the cheeks can have its sensibility disminished during a variable time.

REDUCTION

Sometimes it is necessary to reduce the bone because it is very developed giving a too oval look to the face. The operation is similar to the previous one but instead of placing a prosthesis the bone is lowered by chiselling or rasping it, reducing its projection but maintaining its shape.
